ストーリー
今までアメリカでは知られていなかった日本の「高校野球」の世界を外国のクルーが撮影。全国大会を目指し、甲子園への夢を追いかける、甲子園常連校、強豪智弁和歌山高校と、進学校である大阪天王寺高校の２００４年の夏を追いかけた作品です。
天王寺高校は大阪の府立高校で、監督、政先生は選手とその家族と深く関わりながら、情熱的にチームを引っ張っていきます。大阪は全国で一番競争率が高く、２００校近くある中で甲子園の出場権を手にするのは一校だけです。
智辨和歌山高校は私立学校で、過去２０回以上も甲子園にチームを導き、３回の優勝経験がある伝説の高嶋監督が率いる強豪校。甲子園常連校の監督である高嶋監督の下で、生徒達は甲子園出場を目指して連日ハードなトレーニングに立ち向かいます。
政監督が一人一人の選手たちと深く関わることによって築かれた絆は、大会の最後に明確に。対して高嶋監督は、チームが負けた瞬間から来年の新チームに頭を切りかえ、来年度の智辯和歌山高校の優勝を目指します。

The excerpt also includes the opening of the selection process, in which the players who will be selected to play in the tournament, are revealed. In addition to teaching about baseball, this excerpt also provides a good introduction to the role and meaning of origami paper cranes and the importance placed on people playing supporting roles, not just players, in Japanese high school baseball.

The excerpt does an excellent job of illustrating the emotions felt not just by the players but by most of the students of the high school, including the cheering section. The speech by the head of the cheering section can also be used to help illustrate the sempai/kohai (or senior student/junior student) system that is central to Japanese schools.

High School Baseball, follows underdog Tennoji High School after their loss in the regional tournament. The footage illustrates the bond between the players and the manager, as well as the emotions felt by the players after the loss.
